Teen’s Group

Group therapy allows for people to heal in the context of empathy and compassion. Women’s Eating Disorder Recovery Group offers support to those in recovery in order to process struggles with regard to working toward/maintaining abstinence from behaviors and working toward self-acceptance.

  • Co-facilitated by Mary Eber LPC-MHSP and Melissa Giovanni MS, RD, LDN
  • Two hour, weekly sessions with an initial 6-week commitment
  • $85/group session

Themes explored in group:

  • Struggles with body image and low self-worth
  • Challenging negative cognitions that contribute to eating disorder behaviors
  • Accountability and solution focus/skills used to decrease and eliminate behaviors
  • Exploration of social media and cultural norms surrounding thin ideals that can contribute to Eating Disorders
  • Connection to difficult emotions and life events that contribute to eating disorders as a maladaptive coping strategy
  • Psychodrama/experiential modalities
  • Meal support/outings
  • Nutritional information to help move toward intuitive eating and exercising

Melissa Giovanni MS, RD, LDN

Melissa Giovanni is a Registered Dietician whose nutrition philosophy is a non-diet approach to meal planning, using intuitive and mindful eating principles. She came to the field of nutrition with a passion for helping people heal their relationship with food and live a life without food rules and judgment. She aims to provide clients with the information, skills, and support to progress in their recovery and to better their physical and emotional health.

Being a part of Mary’s eating disorder recovery group has helped me gain a sense of community with others who have shared the same struggles, which has in turn helped me stay positive and focused on recovery.
