Mary is passionate about supervising and training both clinical interns and masters-level clinicians seeking licensure. She is a designated supervisor in the state of Tennessee with qualifications of supervisory status including 5+ years post licensure (LPC-MHSP) experience in the field of counseling, 12 hours of training directly related to counseling supervision, and ongoing yearly CEUs related to supervision and ethics in counseling.
In reflection on her own training, Mary recognizes she has been lucky to have wonderful mentorship and supervision from various colleagues. She approaches her relationship with supervisees as an opportunity to pour into learners through providing mentorship and through her own clinical experience. Mary takes an integrative and developmental approach to facilitating counselor growth by allowing new clinicians to build confidence relying on the natural strengths and gifts they bring to the field.
Mary supports and challenges supervisees directly, and provides case conceptualization to gain further experience in working with clients especially in her own specialty areas of those struggling with eating disorders, trauma/PTSD, and sexual addiction and intimacy issues (CSAT cases). Mary is also trained in EMDR, somatic therapies, and psychodrama/experiential techniques that can be taught and provided as resources for supervisees in both individual, triadic, and group settings.

How We Will Work Together
Our team is lucky to work with and help train highly skilled clinical interns. As they are working directly under Mary’s supervision while also completing master’s level coursework in counseling, they are building the clinical skills necessary to work with a variety of clients including those struggling with disordered eating, trauma/PTSD, intimacy and relationship issues, and other mental health issues. We understand there can be financial barriers to obtaining excellent mental health services, and we are proud to offer a variety of intern counseling services that can be provided at a lower, sliding scale rate depending on client need.
Specialized Intern training in the private practice setting includes:
- Direct supervision weekly
- Group supervision and case consultation opportunities
- Weekly case consultation meetings.
- Shadowing licensed clinicians in individual, group, and family sessions
- CEU and additional training opportunities
- Networking opportunities for long-term professional relationships and development

“Mary has a beautiful way of being both affirming and challenging as a supervisor. She is dedicated to teaching with fidelity and leading with empathy. Interning for Mary has been inspiring, constructive, encouraging and refining. She is flexible, down-to-Earth and fun, while always remaining professional. I have been given a healthy balance of guidance and autonomy throughout my internship. Because of my time learning under Mary, I am a more dynamic and knowledgeable therapist, prepared and confident as I approach graduation.” (JG)
